Montclair Prophetic Council

Montclair Prophetic Council: Join us in abolishing abusive policing

Grounded in a shared movement toward collective liberation, we will gather for a Prophetic Council on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

The Montclair Prophetic Council pledges to:
--Educate ourselves about the force report data for our municipality, history of policing and current demands in our community.
--Commit to creating and/or supporting community responses that demilitarize our communities
--Rely on community responses in the event of a non-violent crime, rather than calling the police. These types of responses promote restorative justice

Racialized and abusive policing is a part of our history and it continues to be the standard in New Jersey - a standard that demands witness and transformation. At this prophetic council, we will listen, openly, and actively to the lived experience of our community members so that we might collaboratively face this injustice. Together, we will lament as we educate our community to the often overlooked reality that abusive policing happens right here in Montclair.

Following this council, we will continue to gather and sustain a movement of allies, collaborators, and co-conspirators with a prophetic commitment to liberation.
