Social Work Voices: Being brown in white spaces

The question many never ask is “what is like to be brown in a white space”? Social workers know that race separates people but social workers often fail to engage in this honest needed discussion. What is it like for a brown faculty person or colleague to enter an environment that does not represent their racial group, have social work practitioners thought about how a brown consumer of your service feels entering a white environment as they struggle to seek help? How do social workers build the needed relationship with brown people so all are able to flourish? Socialworkvoices.com will host these discussions and Dr. Laura Quiros from Adelphi University, School of Social Work will serve as a conversation leader.
